Controversial umpire Joel Wilson sacked from ICC elite panel of umpires

On the fifth day in Melbourne, with the match line, Wilson rejected the appeal behind the Australian catch when Yashvi Jaswal batted under the leg on the ball. The replay showed that it was over.

In the following test in the SCG, Wilson did not give Virat Kohli out of the first ball as the third umpire, after which Steve Smith faced it after moving forward in the slips and caught Mars Libschgan in the street.

Wilson believed that the ball had touched the ground, but several previous Test Grritoes did not agree.

Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting said in Channel Seven’s comment, “You can clearly see his fingers under the ball.”

Wilson was also involved in the recent Test series against Sri Lanka in the wet, as a match official who reported the suspected illegal action by Cohenman.

Kohniman, who took 16 wickets in 17.18 in two Tests, was cleared of any wrongdoing and is free to continue bowling.

Coheniman’s patron, John Dawson, told the Mast Head last month that Australia’s best left -wing Orthodox spinner was made a “sacrifice goat” by officials.

“I will encourage Joel Wilson to correct my decisions rather than joining other parts of the game,” said Davison.

Cohenman talked about the impact of referring to an interview with this Mast Head last week.

“I was fortunate to have a huge support network to deal with it because it was very public, but there are definitely better ways to do it, and if it should not be public then that will happen.”

During the Boxing Day Test between Australia and Pakistan in 2023, Wilson terminated two decisions on two balls, which forced former Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram to declare that Wilson was “Shakir”.

Wilson has been involved in 67 Tests, 140 ODIs and 71 T20 Internationals.

ICC Chair J Shah thanked Wilson and congratulated the incoming umpires Alodian Peelkar (South Africa) and Alex Hef (England) in the panel.

Shah said in a statement, “We would like to have sincere thanks to both Joel and Michael for their services in the World Game.”

The Australian International Panel has two umpires. Rod Tucker and Paul Refell.
