The possibility of playing GB cricket at the Los Angeles Olympic Games of 2028 has come a closer step with the confirmation of England and the Wales Cricket Board and Cricket Scotland.
Cricket has not featured in the Olympics since 1900-British men defeated France in two teams tournaments-but two six teams for men and women are booked for the T20 tournament LA Games. The quality of eligibility is yet to be announced, but the ECB and Cricket Scotland are setting up GB cricket to monitor their potential teams.
The next step is to formally recognize the body through the International Cricket Council and the British Olympic Association before becoming a full member of the National Olympic Committee. Understanding with Cricket Ireland is also being worked on to allow Northern Irish cricketers to be eligible for team GB.
“It would be great to play at the Olympics and get an Olympic gold medal,” said Harry Brock, the new England White Ball captain. “But it’s far away – just miles away – I didn’t even think about it.”
Will the Olympics come to the global ranking, then the ECB believes that England’s place – the third in the game of men and the second in women – will use the ICC. For the West Indies, things appear to be less cleared, however, which is made of Olympic separate countries.
This uncertainty has already forced the Cricket West Indies to issue a statement for a “fair and transparent way.” This included the advice that the rating should be used – their men and women are ranked fifth and sixth, respectively – the same representative country will be decided by the regional tournament.

Another complexity is whether, as a host, the United States, should get a place in each tournament, which reduces the number of qualifying bracelets. His men are ranked 17th in the ICCT20 ranking, while their women’s team is ranked 24th.
